Under the lawn

Topsoil, root zone, irrigation, bedding, drainage. This is the build-up we construct — before a single blade of grass goes down on it. The longest phase, the least photogenic, and the one that decides the rest.

What you don't see
is what keeps it alive.
The water goes into the root zone, not into the air. We measure the real pressure and flow of your water source — that decides how many zones there are and how many can run at once. The pipework goes under the lawn.

Common questions
01 What does a garden or an irrigation system cost?
It depends on the size of the area, the ground conditions, how much paving there is, and — for irrigation — the number of zones and the type of water source. That is why we don't work from a price list: after the free site survey you get a specific, itemised quote with every cost in it. A fixed price, with nothing hidden.
02 Do the garden and the irrigation have to be done together?
No — we take on either one on its own. But if a new garden is being built, it is worth thinking about both at once: irrigation is easiest to lay before the lawn and the paving go down, and that way the least has to be opened up. It can also go into a finished garden — we lift the turf carefully and put it back.
03 How long does the work take?
It depends on size and complexity: an irrigation system is typically a few days, and so is a smaller garden, while a complete large garden with paving and structures can run to several weeks. We give a realistic schedule at the planning stage and we keep to it — the exact timing is set out in the quote.
04 When is the best time to start?
Earthworks, paving, garden structures and irrigation can be done almost all year round. Planting and turfing are best in spring and early autumn. At the survey we will find the timing that suits your situation.
05 Can we count on you after the handover?
Yes. We take on ongoing garden care if you want it — mowing, pruning, bed maintenance — and seasonal servicing for irrigation: spring start-up, autumn draining, fault finding. We don't disappear the day after handover.
06 Is there a warranty on the work?
Yes. Because the plan and the whole build are ours, we warrant our own work. The specific conditions — for the paving, the garden structures, the planting and the irrigation system — are set out in the quote.
